Since the geo-strategic concept of Indian Ocean took its present form in the 16th century, the centrality of South Asia remained a conspicuous feature. However, at present, the concept of the Indian Ocean is being overshadowed by the new construct of the Indo- Pacific region.
In this background, this paper examines the geo-political and geo-strategic underpinnings behind the construction of the Indo-Pacific Ocean/Region from the perspective of a small island state in South Asia.
