The last fifty years of water management in South Asia has been the story of an unfolding disaster. Throughout the region, the water and energy requirements of cities and villages have confronted decline in the quality and quantity of water. This particular book, which is based on present scientific and social knowledge focuses on the main reason for the failure of South Asia’s construction-led water development to address the basic sources of the suffering of the people and ways and means which can be used to ensure effective and sustainable approach to water management and water development.
